The sustainable and smart urban design of a part of Isfahan’s structural and historical center (Sepah Street)

Abstract


The city and its urban space is a context for social interactions, different events, and daily activities of people. The quality of these spaces is a determining factor for their presence, the occurrence of various events, and the establishment of interactions. The quality of urban design is a fundamental and important issue in urban design. In fact, the urban design is the creation of these urban spaces. Among urban spaces, the streets and routes are the main, the most important, and most basic urban spaces. Fast new technologies development in urban design, create new model of cities named as "Smart City". A city which its streets are designed and built using new technologies, innovation and knowledge management is more viable, functional, competitive and more up to date and provides six important base of functioning include economy, dynamism, the environment, citizenship, quality of life and at last urban management.

Relying on modern literature in urban design, especially sustainability and its implications, however, this study aimed to determine the need to improve the quality of urban spaces and make smart. In this regard, a case study (Sepah Street, as a main part of Isfahan) was designed based on research findings. According to the analysis of collected data, the design was conducted. The researcher presented maps to introduce the proposal.
