Key words: habitat, holistic, tolerance, transformation.

The term 'environment' is theoretically well defined, scientifically analyzed and synthesized in its  monistic  and holistic views, functionally and methodologically classified in the arena of geography, since the word “geography' was first used by Eratosthenes in the 3rd century BC. Environment is a 'space' measured by 'time scale' within a given set of surrounding. If we take it as a 'habitat' then 'life' is its content in a given time and space. The sustainability of life is also measured by 'time scale'. Environment is very simple in its holistic view but complex in its monistic view. The sensitivity of environmental components can be observed in their behavioural forms- tolerance, adaptation and transformation. Environmental degradation takes place beyond the range of tolerance. The rate of degradation increases with the advancement of technology. For its up gradation, enhancement and augmentation of three tier environment is required at the grass-root level.
